SpiderBraids' European Vacation: Day 7

Breakfast at the hotel. Your typical continental fare of eggs, sausage, bacon and bread.

Today, we're taking a bus tour of Porto.

Something I hadn't seen in 18 years... the Atlantic Ocean.

A Vodaphone-sponsored statue of an electric guitar. Not visible in photo: Sign saying "Porto calls for you".

The Atlantic Ocean.

There's plenty of old architecture in Porto, such as this old castle.

At first glance, you'd think this road was Beverly Hills :-D This is actually a stretch of Avenida Dom Carlos I, at the mouth of the Douro River.

The Douro River, and the part of town across from it. Mostly orange roofs.

Arrabida bridge, one of the more modern bridges in Porto.

Our bus passing over an aqueduct along the river coast.

A mural...

...just before going under the oldest bridge in Porto, Dom Luis bridge.

Orange roofs from the other side of the river.

Another shot of the Dom Luis.

After walking to a port brewery expecting to find something to eat, we ended up settling for Pizza Hut, but as with the McDonald's before, we decided to try some non-typical fare, starting with this Brazilian soda made with guarana which IMO takes a lot like apple.

Appetizers: Breaded mushrooms, potato smileys, and cheese-garlic bread.

And finally our pizza, looking much more like a traditional pizza than the kind we normally get back home.

A view of the roads in Porto, replete with cobblestone.

The Dom Pedro IV Statue in front of the town hall.

Since this was the day before the start of the World Cup soccer tournament, some stalls and a big screen were set up in front of the town hall. We'll see it again later.

Yet another shot of the Dom Luis, from a road high up above.

Portugal is quite the religious country, so there are plenty of churches here.

Santa Catarina shopping street. We'll see it again later.

Back at the hotel, briefly vegging in front of the TV with twin princesses Fine (red hat)...

...and Rein (blue hat). The anime in question wasn't exactly a big hit. AFAIK, it's only been sold to Hong Kong, China, Italy... and Thailand and Portugal. Looks cute though :-)

Another church, the São Miguel de Nevogilde. This one we'll see again later.

Dinner at the Oporto Restaurant-Bar. This here is "Golden Cod": Shredded cod mixed with shredded potato and egg.

Dessert: crepe with chocolate. Mmm...
